The Vieux Carré, created in 1937 by Walter Bergeron at the Carousel Bar in the Hotel Monteleone in New Orleans, is one of the most popular sophisticated cocktails. Base: rye whiskey, cognac, sweet vermouth, Bénédictine, bitters.
Official recipe
2 cl rye whiskey, 2 cl cognac, 2 cl Italian sweet vermouth, 0.5 cl Bénédictine, 1 dash Peychaud's bitters, 1 dash Angostura. Stir, Old Fashioned glass, ice cube, lemon twist.
Variations
Vieux Carré Cognac Pasquet (substitute standard cognac with Artisanal Cognac Pasquet), Vieux Carré Génépi (De Michellot alpine twist), Alcohol-free Vieux Carré (mocktail).
