Gentian , the emblematic plant of the French mountains, gives rise to a bitter, powerful and unique liqueur. But how do you drink gentian ? At what temperature? As an aperitif or digestif? Neat or in a cocktail? Here's everything you need to know to enjoy De Michellot gentian liqueur in the best conditions.
Gentian is traditionally consumed before meals to stimulate the appetite, thanks to its bitter ingredients which stimulate digestion.
Its powerful, plant-based structure also makes it an excellent digestive , natural, without sugary heaviness.
🕰️ As an aperitif: long.
🕰️ As a digestif: pure or fresh.
Ideal for bitter lovers
At room temperature or slightly chilled
Perfect for experiencing the complexity of plants (gentian, wild thyme, ginger, etc.)
To soften the intensity and reveal fresher aromas
Very pleasant with sparkling water , tonic , or in a cocktail
4 cl of Michellot gentian liqueur
10 cl of tonic
Ice cubes + lemon zest
3 cl gin
3 cl dry vermouth
2 cl of Michellot gentian
1 dash of orange bitters
5 cl of gentian
1 cl of honey syrup
2 dashes of Angostura
Serve over ice, stir gently
Pure : between 12 and 16°C , never iced (risk of blocking the aromas)
In a cocktail : always on ice or freshly diluted
In winter : possible hot grog, with lemon and honey (rare but original option)
Avoid mixing it with overly sweet drinks (cola, syrups)
No need to shoot it: gentian is enjoyed slowly , like a good whisky or an old rum.
Never flame or heat it at high temperatures
